Jehu leads Welsh companies at Considerate Constructor Awards

Jehu has become one of only two Welsh companies to win a Considerate Constructors Award this year.

We’ve achieved a bronze award for our Langdon Road site in Swansea’s SA1 development as part of the UK wide national awards scheme. In total, only 17 sites across Wales met with the scheme’s strict criteria, but only two of the developers of those sites were Welsh, including Jehu. The awards are presented every year to the top performing construction sites throughout the UK.

Our Langdon Road development consists of 69 one and two bedroom eco-friendly apartments led by Coastal Housing. The contract worth £6.7m will be completed in August 2011.

The site was closely monitored by Considerate Constructors Scheme against a strict set of eight different criteria, including environment, cleanliness, accountability, safety and ‘being a good neighbour’.

We are again in the running to be named to UK’s Most Considerate Site 2011 along with the other award winners.

Nyron Wood, Site Manager at the Langdon Road site, said: “We have made a real effort to be considerate at this site since we started there 15 months ago. Our team has actively engaged with the community, working with the local schools in St Thomas who have provided us with posters to decorate the hoarding alongside the site. We have also visited schools in Port Talbot to give Year 11 students an idea of what we do and provide them with interview skills and techniques.

“As well as sharing our time and resources with young people in the area, we have worked with the local Waterfront Community Church to put together a time capsule which will be buried on site later in the build programme.

“To keep local residents informed of developments on site, we have produced a monthly newsletter for site neighbours, as well as setting up a website and keeping it updated with photographs and information about the build.

“The award is thanks to the hard work of the whole team as we strive to be as considerate as possible, not only in our approach to the local community but also within the site itself.”
