Work commences in Caerphilly to provide new homes for United Welsh

Work has commenced on a new social housing complex in Caerphilly. The contract worth £3.3 million is being constructed for United Welsh Housing Association. The scheme includes the construction of a new 13 bed hostel, together with the development of 16 new affordable homes. The scheme which has been funded by the Welsh Government will provide much needed homes in the centre of Caerphilly.

The 16,000 square foot accommodation will be built on the site formerly occupied by Encon Engineering on the Bartlett Street Works. Encon is now moving to new purpose built accommodation within the county. Work commenced on site in June 2011 and the project is scheduled to be completed and ready for occupation within a 15 month period.

Huw Evans, commercial director for Jehu Project Services, said: “We are proud to be working with United Welsh Housing Association to deliver this much needed scheme. United Welsh do a fantastic job in providing housing and other services to people in South Wales and this new building will offer vital accommodation in the heart of Caerphilly.”

Cllr James Fussell, Caerphilly County Borough Council Mayor 2010/11 visited the site recently and said how delighted he was to see that work is about to start on the regeneration of this key site in the centre of Caerphilly.
